Guests: Mr. Youmani Jérôme Lankoandé, President of Innovation Quebec, Frédéric Bouchard, Associate Vice-Rector for Innovation at the University of Montreal, and President of ACFAS, and Professor Jean-Marc Fontan.

We live in a knowledge society. Or should we now say «knowledge and innovation»? One thing is certain, this last word is now used in several ways – as proof, we are discussing it this week with an economist, a sociologist and a philosopher!

In Quebec, we recently learned that the government will not implement the National Research and Innovation Policy (PNRI) adopted in 2013 under the Marois government. The next budget will not support what was seen as a promising and unifying policy – by people of science, research and social innovation.

In 2016, there will instead be different initiatives to stimulate innovation. For example, Creativity Quebec, a three-year $ 150 million program to encourage business innovation. As well as a strategy targeting the health sector, scheduled for the fall.

At this announcement, voices were raised. While not all of them want the PNRI to return, some, like the Coalition Avenir Québec, are proposing to establish «innovation zones» along the St. Lawrence.
